MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS
OUR MISSION: The City of Bethlehem
Medical Reserve Corps is dedicated to organizing and preparing
a medically related volunteer base that will serve to assist
with emergency services, public health practice, and community
outreach and education.
It is through this mission that
the City of Bethlehem MRC will assist and collaborate with
existing community and public health agencies to effectively
use our vital community and medical resources in response
to a major natural or manmade disaster.
Who Can Volunteer?
Most volunteers have medical
training, but others have special skills that are needed in
times of emergency. The City of Bethlehem MRC welcomes medical
professionals with a diversity of talent, experience, skills,
and expertise. Currently we are looking for:

Administration & Support
Subcommittee
Overview: An
administration and support subcommittee within the City of
Bethlehem Medical Reserve Corps dedicated to offering infrastructure
support through grants, volunteer activity communications,
and coordination with existing local community partners and
emergency service agencies.
Examples of Administration and Support Subcommittee
Activities:
- Assist with writing and producing quarterly newsletter
- Work with MRC Coordinator to create Memorandums of Understanding
with other local partners and key community stakeholders.
- Work with MRC coordinator on volunteer sustainability
efforts such as grant writing, volunteer recognition, and
volunteer staff planning.
Education & Outreach Subcommittee
Overview: An education and outreach subcommittee
within the City of Bethlehem Medical Reserve Corps dedicated
to hosting educational health and preparedness related events
in the community. In addition this subcommittee will be responsible
for promoting health education among Medical Reserve Corps
Volunteers
Examples of Mental Health Subcommittee Activities:
- Planning blood pressure (and/ or other screenings), preparedness
education, and other health prevention and promotion activities
at local community forums like the mall, rotary clubs, health
fairs etc.
- Do presentations like “Make a Kit Make a Plan”
to special population groups and work with organizational
leaders within the special population sector to do train
the trainer sessions.
- Conduct infection control education and promotion in
the community and assist with Germ City.
- Assist with developing and producing recruitment posters
Mental Health Subcommittee
Overview: A mental health subcommittee within
the City of Bethlehem Medical Reserve Corps dedicated to improving
mental health standards of practice and training for all Medical
Reserve Corps Volunteers
Examples of Mental Health Subcommittee Activities:
- Develop and seek out mental health trainings for MRC volunteers.
- Assist with educating volunteers on job actions associated
with mental health care and triage.
- Conduct specific preparedness education/ outreach to
mental health/ special population groups.
- Assist with mental health phone triage scripts, protocols,
communication education, and job actions associated with
the Northampton County Health Information Call Center.
Clinical Subcommittee
Overview: A clinical subcommittee within
the City of Bethlehem Medical Reserve Corps dedicated to improving
clinical standards of practice and training for all Medical
Reserve Corps Volunteers
Examples of Subcommittee Activities:
- Organize and educate volunteers on Job action sheets.
- Perform clinical management duties and develop clinical
management protocols in conjunction with public health infrastructure
and MRC coordinator.
- Perform and or aid in finding appropriate clinical and
advanced triage trainings for volunteers.
- Assist Health Bureau and Medical Reserve Corps with fit
testing staff and volunteers, as well as conducting basic
CPR and first aid training.
- Assist with finding appropriate epidemiological trainings
for volunteers.
- Aid in the development in POD site volunteer planning,
training, and functional exercise activities.
